ERC President explains changes in the ERC evaluation procedures
The ERC Scientific Council continuously monitors the quality of the submission and evaluation processes, ensuring they are optimised to serve the needs of the European research community. Drawing on feedback from applicants, panel members, and the broader research community, the ERC Scientific Council has decided to introduce a set of improvements in the 2026 and 2027 calls for proposals.

Observe ERC evaluation panels
The ERC is seeking independent observers with extensive knowledge and experience in scientific evaluation systems to assess the ERC procedures for evaluating grant applications. The work includes observing the evaluation sessions and subsequently providing views on the extent to which the procedures are fit for purpose and the way in which the evaluators apply the ERC selection criteria. Deadline for nomination: 20 September 2025.

Take the survey: New access to online data
Recently adopted rules complementing the EU’s Digital Services Act mean better access for qualified researchers to online data gathered by very large platforms and search engines. This enables independent scrutiny of how online services impact society and gives researchers more power to identify and analyse risks in the digital world. Will these new rules affect your research? Let us know by filling in this short survey.
