The Royal College of Surgeon in Ireland (RCSI)/Dept. Medicine Dublin, Ireland (www.rcsi.ie) is interested in participating in MSCA actions.

 

Prof Catherine M Greene Profile:

Since joining RCSI in 1998 after a BA (1991) and PhD (1995) in Molecular Microbiology in Trinity College Dublin and 3 years as a postdoc for Prof Luke O’Neill also in TCD, my research has focussed on understanding in detail the molecular mechanisms regulating pulmonary innate immunity. My general research interests are:

  1. microRNA and noncoding RNA expression and function,
  2. innate immunity, endoplasmic reticulum stress and host-pathogen interactions in the lung,
  3. chronic inflammatory lung disease especially cystic fibrosis and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and
  4. Xchromosome and sex hormone-specific differences.

My research has been funded by the National Children's Research Centre, the European Respiratory Society, GlaxoSmithKline, Science Foundation Ireland, The Health Research Board, The Medical Research Charities Group, Enterprise Ireland, The US Alpha One Foundation, RCSI, HEA and The Wellcome Trust.

Since joining RCSI I have secured in excess of €2.25 million funding. I have supervised (or co-supervised) 9 PhDs, 6 MDs and 1 MSc to completion and currently oversee 4 PhD students.

  • Expert in airway inflammation in cystic fibrosis especially the role of microRNA in the pathogenesis of this condition
  • Have held a senior leadership role in the European Respiratory Society for 6 years as secretary (2008-’11) and chairperson (2011-’14) of Group 3.2 (Airway Cell Biology and Immunology)
