EUROPA MEDIA NEWSLETTER

Dear Reader,

The new year starts off with the excellent news for European research on Switzerland’s full association to Horizon 2020, following the fulfilment by the Swiss Parliament of the needed requirements last December. As of 1st January 2017, Switzerland will thus be fully associated to the entire Horizon 2020 programme.

Just before the holiday season, the European research and innovation community earned wide acclaim as Galileo, the European global navigation satellite system (GNSS), went live for the first time. While twelve more satellites will be launched by 2020, the current eighteen satellites and ground infrastructures are now operationally ready. Fully funded by the EU, Galileo is the product of 17 years of European research, providing a strategic commercial advantage to the region in the long run.

The European Space Agency does offer a number of open invitations to tender for industry and research players; if you are interested in the field, it might be worth checking out also the Horizon 2020 Work Programme for Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies – Space, for the remaining calls in 2017.

To be better prepared for your upcoming applications in 2017 and further, do not miss our Horizon 2020 Proposal Development training course, taking place on 30-31 March in Brussels. Following our new approach, you will practice proposal development on the first day and delve into the specifics of dissemination, exploitation and communication on the second day.

Here’s to a 2017 filled with success in your research and innovation endeavours!

On the same day, the Swiss Federal Council ratified the protocol extending the free movement of persons to Croatia, thus fulfilling the necessary condition for Switzerland’s full association to Horizon 2020 as of 2017. Following this ratification, Switzerland retrieves the full association to the entire Horizon 2020 programme from 01 January 2017 on.
