The Program European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (EEA FM) 2009-2014, Program Area “Renewable Energy”, total budget of 11,188,235 €, is funded by EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway) by 85 % (9,510,000 €) and the Public Investment Program of Hellenic Republic by 15 % (1,678,235 €). The Program Area ”Renewable Energy” of the EEA FM for the period 2009-2014 for Greece, has as main target to increase the share of Renewable Energy Sources in energy generation and consumption while at the same time to reduce the greenhouse gases emissions.

The Program contributes to the realization of demonstrative RES projects in Greece, as a green development pillar in line with the EU 20-20-20 country’s obligations. Furthermore, it seeks the mitigation of social and economic disparities as well as the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the area of RES.Proposals. It may be submitted  in only one of the following categories:

Category 1 – RES integrated actions in local “Communities”, as defined in Table 1 of Article 1.

Category 2 – RES integrated actions in a ”Small island” – predefined project, as defined in Table 1 of Article 1.

Eligible applicants are public entities that act towards public interest (e.g. regional and local authorities, municipal companies, research and educational institutions) and partnership of such entities within the Greek geographical borders.

The projects included into the Programme will be funded up to 100% from the Programme’s budget being also in line with state aid rules. Moreover, the projects shall not generate profits during their operation period. For the projects of Category 1 - “Community”, the eligible budget varies from 1,000,000 up to 3,000,000 € per project of Project Promoter.

For the Category 2 –“Small island” – predefined project, one proposal is going to be approved having as maximum budget the total available funding , equal to 1,701,548 €.

Final date of costs eligibility for the proposed projects, is April 30, 2016. The proposed projects should be completed by the deadline specified above.
