EuRoC (European Robotics Challenges) Open Calls
04-04-2014

Glossary:

Challengers: Research Organizations, companies or even private persons, which fulfill the eligibility criteria, and are willing to tackle the EuRoC challenges.

End Users: Manufacturing companies, either SMEs or large Enterprises, looking for robotic solutions for their production environment.

Technology Developers: Companies or research organizations developing innovative technologies (e.g. new vision system, cloud-based control software, etc.) and looking for an application of their technology in the industrial robotics domain.

System Integrators: Companies that specialize in bringing together robotic components/subsystems, developing and commissioning whole robotic systems.

Call for Challengers

EuRoC aims at sharpening the focus of European manufacturing through a number of application experiments, while adopting an innovative approach which ensures comparative performance evaluation. In the framework of EuRoC, three industry-relevant challenges are launched:

  • Reconfigurable Interactive Manufacturing Cell (Challenge 1),
  • Shop Floor Logistics and Manipulation (Challenge 2),
  • Plant Servicing and Inspection (Challenge 3).

The purpose of running the three Challenges is 1) to question the status quo of the existing solutions in the respective fields, 2) to showcase the potential of robotics Challenges and bring Europe to the forefront of grant induced innovation and 3) to develop innovative products and services that are applicable to end users and benefit the European manufacturing industry.

All the three Challenges are launched in an open call framework aimed at involving whole supply chains and fostering collaboration among application experts, technology suppliers, system integrators, service providers and potential end users.

Call for Technology Developers

Innovative technology is not an end in itself – it is supposed to be applied to real industry needs to generate an economical outcome.

Unfortunately, it is not always obvious, in which ways or in which use cases technologies could be beneficial. Therefore, it is important to show other companies the advantages of the technology provided and to demonstrate how the technology could address real challenges in industry.

For this purpose, it is conducive to gain knowledge about the pain points of end users and to get access to the knowledge of system integrators and other stake-holders regarding possible applications of the technology.

The EuRoC Challenge provides a stimulating environment as it brings together research experts, technology developers, system integrators and end users to work on challenging use cases and to compete with other teams to provide best in class solutions.

Hence, the EuRoC is seeking technology developers that are interested in providing innovative technologies and searching for possible applications in the manufacturing field.

It provides 3 different challenge contexts in which these technologies could be applied:

  • Reconfigurable Interactive Manufacturing Cell (Challenge 1),
  • Shop Floor Logistics and Manipulation (Challenge 2),
  • Plant Servicing and Inspection (Challenge 3).
